Frequently asked about Thor: Love and Thunder
Common questions people search for, with answers written by us at MoviesPack.
How does Jane Foster become the Mighty Thor?
After Thor abandoned Mjolnir following the events of Thor: Ragnarok, the hammer reassembled itself and sensed Jane Foster's terminal cancer. Mjolnir, having previously absorbed an enchantment Thor cast to protect Jane, deemed her worthy and flew to her — transforming her into the Mighty Thor and temporarily suppressing her cancer symptoms whenever she wields it. The trade-off is that each transformation accelerates the cancer's progression when she returns to her normal form.
What is Gorr the God Butcher's motivation for killing gods?
Gorr devoted his entire life to worshipping his god, only to watch his daughter Love die from starvation while his prayers went unanswered. When he encountered his god, Rapu, the deity callously dismissed his suffering and confirmed gods care nothing for mortal worshippers. Gorr then seized the Necrosword — a shadow-forged blade capable of killing gods — and dedicated himself to wiping out all gods as revenge for their indifference to mortal suffering.
Why does Gorr's wish at Eternity not destroy all gods?
Gorr reaches the center of the universe, the entity Eternity, which grants a single wish to whoever finds it first. Although Gorr's stated goal is the destruction of all gods, he is persuaded by Thor in his final moments to instead wish for his dead daughter to be resurrected. Facing death from the corrupting influence of the Necrosword, Gorr chooses to use his one wish to bring back Love rather than pursue his vendetta, dying as the wish is granted.
What happens to Jane Foster at the end of the film?
Jane dies after the final battle, her body unable to survive the cumulative toll that wielding Mjolnir has taken on her cancer. She passes away in Thor's arms, and Mjolnir shatters permanently when she dies. In the post-credits scene, Jane is shown arriving at the gates of Valhalla — the Asgardian afterlife reserved for warriors who die in battle — implying she receives an honorable warrior's death and will exist there.
Who is Love and what is her significance at the end of the film?
Love is the name given to Gorr's resurrected daughter, brought back by his dying wish to the entity Eternity. Thor, having no family of his own, chooses to adopt and raise her after Gorr's death. The film's closing scenes show Thor and Love fighting together as a duo, with Love wielding Stormbreaker, establishing them as a new partnership and setting up potential future stories for both characters.
