Is The Mummy worth watching?
The Mummy (1999) holds a 7.1 user rating and is widely regarded as a fun, well-paced adventure film blending action, horror, and comedy. It has become a cult favorite, particularly praised for Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz's performances and its Indiana Jones-style tone.

Yes, Stephen Sommers' 1999 The Mummy is a loose remake of the 1932 Universal horror film starring Boris Karloff. A second remake, also titled The Mummy, was released in 2017 starring Tom Cruise as part of Universal's Dark Universe.
Why was Imhotep mummified alive instead of simply executed?
Imhotep was condemned to the Hom-Dai, described as the worst of all ancient Egyptian curses, reserved for only the most vile of blasphemers. He was mummified alive — with his tongue cut out and flesh-eating scarabs sealed inside the sarcophagus — so that he would suffer for eternity rather than pass on to the afterlife. The priests feared that killing him outright would grant him the release of death, whereas the Hom-Dai kept him in a state of undead torment.
How does Imhotep regenerate his body after being awakened?
When Imhotep is resurrected he is an incomplete, decayed mummy and must harvest organs and fluids from living humans to rebuild his physical form. He absorbs the eyes, tongue, and other body parts of the Americans who accidentally read from the Book of the Dead, each absorption restoring more of his flesh. By the time he has fully consumed enough victims he is restored to a complete, living human appearance.
What is the significance of Anck-su-namun's role and why did Imhotep risk everything for her?
Anck-su-namun was the mistress of Pharaoh Seti I, forbidden to be touched by any other man, yet she and Imhotep conducted a secret affair. When Seti discovered them, Anck-su-namun and Imhotep murdered the Pharaoh together; she then killed herself so that Imhotep could escape and later resurrect her. Imhotep's entire plan after awakening is to use Evelyn as a human vessel to restore Anck-su-namun's soul, making his love for her the driving motivation behind every action he takes.
Why can Evelyn read and speak ancient Egyptian, and why does that matter to Imhotep?
Evelyn is an Egyptologist and scholar who has dedicated her life to studying ancient languages and texts, giving her the rare ability to read and pronounce classical Egyptian hieroglyphics. This is critical to the plot because she is the one who inadvertently reads aloud the resurrection incantation from the Book of the Dead, awakening Imhotep in the first place. Imhotep later singles her out as the intended host body for Anck-su-namun's soul precisely because she possesses this linguistic connection to the ancient world.
How is Imhotep ultimately defeated at the end of the film?
Evelyn recites a passage from the Book of Amun-Ra, the golden Book of the Living, which strips Imhotep of his immortality and renders him mortal. Once mortal, Rick stabs him, and Imhotep falls into the cursed pool beneath Hamunaptra where he is dragged down into the underworld by damned souls. The key plot point is that the Book of Amun-Ra was the counter-artifact to the Book of the Dead — it could give life but also take away the supernatural power that the resurrection had granted him.
