Frequently asked about Aquaman
Common questions people search for, with answers written by us at MoviesPack.
Why does Orm want to wage war on the surface world?
Orm, King of Atlantis, views the surface world as a polluter that has dumped waste, plastics, and weapons into the oceans for centuries. He wants to unite the seven underwater kingdoms under his rule as 'Ocean Master' so he can launch a coordinated attack on humanity. His motivations are partly genuine ecological grievance and partly a power grab to consolidate authority his half-brother Arthur could legitimately challenge.
Why is Arthur considered an illegitimate king despite being the firstborn?
Arthur is the son of Atlanna, Queen of Atlantis, and Tom Curry, a human lighthouse keeper, making him a half-breed in the eyes of Atlantean purists. Atlantean law treats union with a surface-dweller as a crime, which is why Atlanna was eventually sentenced to be sacrificed to the Trench. Orm, born of Atlanna's later arranged marriage to King Orvax, is considered the only 'pure' heir despite being younger.
What is the significance of the Trident of Atlan?
The Trident of Atlan was forged for the first king of Atlantis and grants its wielder command over all sea life, marking them as the true king of the seven seas. Only someone of royal blood deemed worthy by the Karathen, the ancient leviathan guarding it, can claim it. Arthur retrieving the trident is what legitimizes his kingship over Orm, who only carries the lesser trident of the current throne.
Why does the Karathen allow Arthur to take the trident when no other king has succeeded?
The Karathen explains that previous kings sought the trident out of pride and ambition, believing themselves worthy by birthright alone. Arthur approaches it not to prove he is the greatest king but because he genuinely wants to stop a war and save both worlds, including the surface-dwellers others dismiss. His humility and mixed heritage, which he once saw as weakness, are what the ancient creature recognizes as true worthiness.
How does Queen Atlanna survive after being sentenced to the Trench?
Atlanna was thrown into the Trench as punishment for loving a human and bearing Arthur, and everyone assumed she was killed by its monstrous inhabitants. Instead, she passed through the Trench and ended up in the hidden Hidden Sea at the Earth's core, where she survived alone for years. Arthur and Mera reach this place during their search for the trident and reunite with her before the final battle.
What is Black Manta's personal grudge against Aquaman?
David Kane and his father are high-seas pirates who attack a Russian submarine at the start of the film. When Arthur intervenes, he refuses to save Kane's father, who is pinned and dying, telling David to ask the sea for mercy. David swears vengeance, and Orm later equips him with Atlantean technology to build the Black Manta suit, turning a personal vendetta into a weapon against Arthur.
