Frequently asked about Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
Common questions people search for, with answers written by us at MoviesPack.
What is the Black Trident and why is it so dangerous?
The Black Trident is an ancient weapon sealed away by Atlantean kings because it is linked to the dark power of Necrus, the Lost Kingdom. Whoever wields it gains immense power but becomes increasingly corrupted and possessed by the malevolent entity Kordax. Black Manta uses the trident to tap into Necrus's orichalcum-fueled energy, which is what drives much of the film's conflict.
Who is Kordax and what is his connection to the Lost Kingdom?
Kordax was an ancient Atlantean king who was banished and imprisoned after embracing forbidden dark magic, with his name struck from all Atlantean records as punishment. He ruled Necrus, the Lost Kingdom, which was buried and hidden away along with him. Throughout the film Kordax exists as a spectral presence who manipulates Black Manta by whispering to him through the Black Trident, using Manta as a vessel to reclaim power in the physical world.
Why does Arthur release Orm from prison to help him?
Arthur needs Orm because Orm is the only person who knows of Necrus from old Atlantean texts and has the knowledge and combat skills to help navigate the threat. Since Necrus is erased from official history, Arthur cannot get help from Atlantean authorities without revealing secrets that could cause panic. Releasing his half-brother also sets up an uneasy alliance that forces both men to confront their rivalry and family bond.
What happens to Black Manta at the end and does Kordax survive?
Black Manta is ultimately defeated when Arthur destroys the Black Trident, severing the conduit through which Kordax was channeling power. Without the trident, Kordax loses his grip on the physical world and is returned to imprisonment. Black Manta survives the climax but is left powerless and captured, his quest for vengeance against Arthur unfulfilled.
What is orichalcum and why does Black Manta mine it?
Orichalcum is a fictional ancient metal in Atlantean lore with enormous energy-generating properties, historically used to power Atlantean civilization. Black Manta, guided by Kordax through the trident, mines it to fuel a weapon capable of warming the Earth's atmosphere as both a power source and a means of catastrophic destruction. The mining operations are also what cause dangerous environmental side effects shown in the film, tying the plot to a broader ecological threat.
