Frequently asked about Warcraft
Common questions people search for, with answers written by us at MoviesPack.
What is the fel and why is it so dangerous in Warcraft?
The fel is a corrupting form of green magic that drains life from one world to fuel a portal to another, leaving the source world barren. Gul'dan uses fel magic powered by the lives of captive prisoners to open the Dark Portal from Draenor to Azeroth, and it visibly corrupts orcs who wield it, turning their skin green and their eyes glowing. The film frames the fel as inherently evil because its power literally requires consuming living beings, which is why Durotan ultimately turns against Gul'dan.
Why does Durotan betray Gul'dan and side with the humans?
Durotan, chieftain of the Frostwolf clan, sees that the fel magic Gul'dan uses is killing Draenor and corrupting the Horde, and he fears the same fate awaits Azeroth and his newborn son Go'el. He arranges a secret meeting with King Llane because he believes the only way to save his people is to kill Gul'dan, whose fel power is the source of the orcs' destruction. His betrayal is driven by loyalty to his clan and his son's future, not affection for humans.
Why does Medivh become corrupted and turn on his allies?
Medivh, the Guardian of Azeroth, was secretly possessed and corrupted by a demonic influence tied to the fel long before the events of the film, which is why he was able to help Gul'dan open the Dark Portal in the first place. His sickly green-tinged appearance and unstable behavior are outward signs of this corruption festering inside him. Khadgar and Lothar eventually confront him at Karazhan, where Medivh briefly regains himself long enough to help close the portal before dying.
What is the significance of King Llane's death at the end?
Llane orders Garona to kill him during the final battle so that she can preserve her standing among the orcs and continue working from within to help both peoples, knowing his death is inevitable. By murdering the king in front of the Horde, Garona earns Gul'dan's respect and a place in the Horde's hierarchy, which is meant to position her as a future ally for the Alliance. Llane's death also unites the human kingdoms in grief and resolve, leading Lothar to issue the call that forms the Alliance.
What happens to Durotan's baby Go'el and why does it matter?
After Gul'dan kills Durotan in a mak'gora duel by cheating with fel magic, Draka places their infant son Go'el in a basket and sets him adrift on a river moments before she is killed. The baby is shown floating downstream and discovered, mirroring the classic Moses imagery, setting up his future as Thrall, who in Warcraft lore grows up to become Warchief of the Horde. The scene exists primarily to seed a sequel and signal that the orcs' redemption story is not over.
