Frequently asked about Black Adam

Why was Black Adam imprisoned for 5,000 years?
Teth-Adam was granted the powers of Shazam by the Council of Wizards after his son Hurut was killed fighting to liberate the people of Kahndaq from the tyrant King Ahk-Ton. In his grief and rage, Teth-Adam killed Ahk-Ton and then slaughtered the oppressive forces across Kahndaq in a brutal rampage that the Wizards deemed an abuse of the gift of power. The Council judged him unworthy and sealed him away in a tomb to prevent further destruction.
Who actually received the Champion's powers first — Teth-Adam or his son?
The powers were originally granted to Hurut, Teth-Adam's son, who was the one truly deemed worthy by the Wizards. When Hurut was fatally shot by an assassin's arrow, he transferred the powers to his father Teth-Adam in his final moments to save him. This twist reframes Teth-Adam's entire origin — he never earned the powers through his own worthiness, but received them as a dying gift from his son.
What is the Crown of Sabbac and why does Ishmael want it?
The Crown of Sabbac is an ancient artifact that, when worn by a mortal, opens a portal to Hell and grants the wearer the demonic power of the lords of the underworld — specifically the six demons Satannas, Aym, Belial, Beelzebub, Asmodeus, and Craton, whose initials spell SABBAC. Ishmael Gregor, the leader of Intergang and a descendant of King Ahk-Ton, seeks the crown to transform himself into a god-like demon and dominate Kahndaq as his ancestor once did. Once he obtains it, he transforms into the supervillain Sabbac.
Why does the Justice Society initially try to stop Black Adam rather than help him?
The Justice Society — Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Cyclone, and Atom Smasher — are deployed by Amanda Waller to contain and capture Black Adam because his methods are lethal and he operates outside any sanctioned authority. Waller views an uncontrolled super-powered being willing to kill as a geopolitical threat, especially one who just awakened in a strategically sensitive country. The JSA's mission is to bring him in peacefully or by force before he destabilizes the region, not to judge whether his cause is just.
What is Doctor Fate's sacrifice at the end, and why does he accept his death?
Doctor Fate — Kent Nelson — sees through the Helmet of Nabu that one of two fates awaits: either Hawkman dies stopping Sabbac, or Fate himself dies in Hawkman's place. Choosing to save his oldest friend, Fate seals Hawkman outside the battle and faces Sabbac alone, buying time for Black Adam to be resurrected and return to the fight. Fate accepts this death willingly because the Helmet had long shown him he would die in this moment, and he considers giving his life to protect both his friend and Kahndaq to be a worthy end.
