The show tracks what happens to a man who can think like a killer when someone capable of becoming his closest friend is shaping that capacity from the inside. The food scenes are grotesque and gorgeous simultaneously.

The ensemble of squints in Brennan's lab becomes a genuine found family.

She gets assigned to a case involving an assassin named Villanelle, and her fixation on Villanelle becomes something the show refuses to categorize. Villanelle becomes equally fixated on the woman tracking her. The cat-and-mouse dynamic is explicitly romantic. Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer create chemistry that transcends the show's sometimes uneven plotting. The first two seasons are exceptional.

Gillian Anderson is cold and precise. Jamie Dornan's killer is frightening precisely because he is so ordinary.
