Frequently asked about The Marvels
Common questions people search for, with answers written by us at MoviesPack.
Was The Marvels movie good?
Reception was mixed to negative, with the film holding a TMDB user rating of 5.4 out of 10. Critics praised the chemistry between Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani along with the brisk 105-minute runtime, while faulting a thin villain arc and a rushed plot.
Was The Marvels a hit or a flop?
The Marvels is widely regarded as a box-office flop, earning roughly $206 million worldwide against a reported production budget of around $270 million, making it one of the lowest-grossing entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Its underperformance prompted Disney to publicly reassess the pace and volume of its superhero output.
Why do Carol, Monica, and Kamala keep swapping places whenever they use their powers?
Their powers are all tied to light: Carol channels stellar light, Monica manipulates light waves after passing through the Hex in WandaVision, and Kamala's bangle is later revealed to be Kree in origin and also light-based. When two or more of them use their powers simultaneously, they quantum entangle and physically swap locations. The entanglement is spatial rather than intentional — it happens involuntarily any time their light-based energies activate at the same moment.
What is Dar-Benn's plan and why does she need the two banles?
Dar-Benn is the Supreme Intelligence's successor as ruler of the Kree Empire and is trying to restore her dying homeworld Hala, which was left barren when Carol destroyed the Supreme Intelligence years earlier. She uses the bangle — a Quantum Band — to tear jump points (unstable wormholes) that siphon atmosphere, water, and sunlight away from other planets and funnel the resources back to Hala. She believes wielding both Quantum Bands together will give her enough power to complete the restoration, which is why she hunts down Kamala's matching bangle.
What happens when Dar-Benn activates both Quantum Bands at once?
When Dar-Benn forces both bands onto her wrists simultaneously, the combined power is far beyond what a single person can safely channel. The energy tears open a massive rift in space — a universe-cracking incursion point — and the feedback instantly kills Dar-Benn. The rift threatens to destroy everything around it and is only sealed when Monica Rambeau flies into it and uses her light-manipulation powers to physically hold it closed from inside, sacrificing her ability to return home.
Why does Monica end up trapped in a different universe at the end of the film?
To prevent the incursion rift from expanding and consuming the surrounding space, Monica pushes through it and channels her power to knit the tear shut from the other side. Sealing it from within means she is cut off from the Marvel-616 universe once the rift closes. She wakes up in what appears to be an alternate universe, greeted by an alternate-universe Maria Rambeau — her mother — who in that timeline became the super hero Binary, suggesting Monica is now stranded in the universe depicted in the X-Men '97 / alternate Marvel continuity.
What is the significance of the Quantum Bands and their connection to Kamala's bangle?
The Quantum Bands are ancient Kree artifacts of immense power that were separated long ago — one ended up on Earth and was passed down until it reached Kamala Khan's family as a heirloom bangle, while Dar-Benn recovered the other. The bands are shown to respond to the genetic or cosmic makeup of their wearers; Kamala's band awakened her latent Inhuman/mutant abilities when she put it on. Together they function like a paired quantum key capable of punching holes between dimensions, which is why possessing both is so dangerous.
