Frequently asked about Beauty and the Beast
Common questions people search for, with answers written by us at MoviesPack.
Why was the Prince transformed into the Beast?
An enchantress disguised as an old beggar woman offered the Prince a rose in exchange for shelter on a cold night. When he turned her away, repulsed by her appearance, she revealed her true form and cursed him and his entire household as punishment for his selfishness and lack of compassion. The spell would only be broken if he could learn to love another and earn their love in return before the last petal fell from the enchanted rose on his twenty-first birthday.
Why does no one in the village seem to know about the enchanted castle nearby?
The enchantress's curse included a memory-wiping effect that caused everyone in the surrounding area to forget the castle and its inhabitants existed. This explains why Maurice, an apparently experienced local inventor, does not recognize the castle when he stumbles upon it, and why Gaston has no prior knowledge of the Beast despite the castle seemingly being within riding distance of the village.
What motivates Gaston to hunt the Beast at the end — jealousy or fear?
Gaston's primary motivation is wounded ego and jealousy rather than genuine concern for the village's safety. After Belle rejects his marriage proposal and then defends the Beast, Gaston exploits the villagers' superstitious fear of the unknown to incite a mob, framing the hunt as protection of the community. His true goal is to eliminate a rival for Belle's affection and reassert his dominance as the town's alpha male.
Why does Belle stay in the castle rather than escape when she has the chance?
Belle initially agrees to remain in the castle voluntarily in exchange for her father Maurice's freedom — she offers herself as the Beast's prisoner so Maurice can go home. Although she later escapes during the wolf attack, she chooses to return after the Beast rescues her, because his act of selfless bravery shifts her perception of him from captor to someone worthy of genuine connection. Her continued stay thereafter is a free choice driven by growing feelings rather than captivity.
How does the Beast transform back into a human, and why does it happen at that specific moment?
The curse requires the Beast to love someone and have that love returned before the enchanted rose's last petal falls. When Belle, believing the Beast is dying after Gaston's attack, tearfully confesses that she loves him, the condition of reciprocated love is met just as the final petal drops. The enchantress's magic then reverses the curse, restoring the Beast and all the enchanted servants to their human forms.
