Frequently asked about Venom
Common questions people search for, with answers written by us at MoviesPack.
Why does the Venom symbiote decide to bond with Eddie Brock instead of killing him?
Initially the symbiote treats Eddie like every other host, burning through his body as it searches for a compatible match. Over the course of the film Venom comes to see Eddie as a kindred 'loser' - both are rejected outcasts on their respective worlds - and admits he has grown to like life on Earth. That emotional connection, plus Eddie's compatibility as a host, pushes Venom to turn on Riot and protect humanity rather than help the invasion.
What is Carlton Drake's real plan with the Life Foundation and the symbiotes?
Drake believes Earth is doomed by climate change and overpopulation, so he funds space probes to find a way to evolve humanity. When his probe returns with symbiotes, he conducts lethal human trials to find compatible hosts, viewing the deaths as necessary sacrifice. By the climax he willingly bonds with the symbiote leader Riot, intending to pilot the Life Foundation rocket back to the symbiote homeworld and bring an entire invasion force to Earth.
Who is Riot and why is he the main antagonist?
Riot is the leader of the symbiotes recovered by the Life Foundation probe and is far stronger than Venom, able to form bladed weapons from his body. He escapes the crash site in Malaysia and body-hops across the globe - through an old woman, a young girl, and finally a paramedic - to reach Drake and the rocket. His goal is to launch back into space and return with the rest of the symbiote army to consume Earth.
Why does Venom turn against his own kind at the end of the film?
Venom reveals he was considered a 'loser' on his home planet, just as Eddie is on Earth, and he no longer wants to be part of the symbiote invasion. He has also developed genuine affection for Eddie, Anne, and the planet itself, telling Eddie that on his world he would be nothing but here he can be more. That sense of belonging is what motivates him to stop Riot and destroy the rocket, even at the cost of seemingly being incinerated.
What is the significance of the mid-credits scene with Cletus Kasady?
Eddie visits San Quentin to interview a red-haired death row inmate who introduces himself as Cletus Kasady, played by Woody Harrelson. Cletus tells Eddie that when he gets out 'there's gonna be carnage,' directly setting up his transformation into the symbiote Carnage. The scene exists purely to plant the seed for the sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, where Cletus bonds with a red offshoot symbiote.
